Density Measurement

Gas (helium) pycnometer instruments are used extensively for the physical characterization of industrial products such as powders, pharmaceuticals, petroleum coke, polymers, paint, adhesives, asphalt, and other construction materials. Our µThermoPyc™ ensures reliability, high accuracy, and repeatability due to low dead volume, precision pressure transducer, and 24-bit data acquisition. This instrument allows true volume measurements of small sample sizes in temperature ranges from 20° to 150°C. Complex experiments can be carried out to meet specific requirements for our clients and we generate accurate results quickly.

The µThermoPyc™ Variable Temperature Gas (Helium) Micro Pycnometer

Key Measurements

  • Density changes with temperature
  • Determination of volume changes in temperature-driven phase changes
  • Density of liquid samples with high melting point

Applicable Standard

  • ASTM B923-22, "Standard Test Method for Metal Powder Skeletal Density"
  • ASTM C604-18, "Standard Test Method for True Specific Gravity of Refractory Materials"
  • U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) 699, "Gas Pycnometric Density of Solids"

Sample Preparation

Samples can be run "as-received" or prepared in our laboratory. Our test design experts have handled everything from highly toxic or flammable samples, regulated, gas condensation, catalyst injection, and more.
